Solar Eclipse Total Solar Eclipse - by Lena Owens Copyright OLena Art
In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.
― Madeline Miller, The Song of Achilles
Alll that hype about seeing a full solar eclipse? It's true! It was far beyond our wildest imagination! It is all that they say it is.., and more! It makes for an incredible experience.
At first the sunlight dimmed so slowly it was imperceptible. But within minutes of the full eclipse, the surroundings began to dim as if suddenly under heavy cloud cover... as the moon completely covered the sun it was if we were immediately plunged into a dark twilight! Much darker than we had imagined (or even prepared for). And the temperature, it had been very warm and suddenly, it became very chilly (I quickly added a light jacket).
Where the sun had been was now a black orb surrounded by a brilliant aurora of light. Venus in the sky. Stars could be seen! It was an experience that words cannot adequately describe.
We looked at each other and just went "Wow!"...
Already contemplating the next one... Texas, April 2024.
(We had a camera set up behind us with a super wide angle lens. We turned the camera on just before the total eclipse to take a picture ever 15 seconds for 4 minutes. The images of us taking pictures of eclipse are dark because this is how we remember the full eclipse.... dark. Much darker than we had expected.)

Wow this is such a magical image Lena such a very well done job! I truly enjoyed reading your description of what took place on the 21st! It is all the things that I remembered except for one thing I forgot to look for stars! I was so busy changing lenses and moving my tripod around that I neglected to look up to see if I could see stars in the sky! LF

Yes, it was a short moment, and so many things needed to be done. We also changed settings on cameras and it was so dark, so I messed up with my shatter speed, but everything turned fine in the end ◕‿ ◕
